North Little Rock is tracking every car in town. It's time for an ordinance.

If you drove through North Little Rock this week, the city has a record of it. Not a ticket, not a stop, just a timestamped photo of your plate, your vehicle, and where you were, sitting in a private company's database. Dozens of automated license plate readers now ring the city — and most residents have never been told they exist, never been asked whether they wanted them, and have no way to find out how they're used. None of this requires tearing the cameras down. It requires the council to put the program under written, enforceable rules.

“Cameras are cheap. Trust isn't.”The eight-point ordinance we're proposing — and how to push for it

Eaton picks Dogtown: a $242 million plant and 1,200 jobs

Power-management giant Eaton announced Wednesday it will build a $242 million, million-square-foot manufacturing facility in North Little Rock — roughly 1,200 jobs making customized electrical enclosures for its Fibrebond business, feeding the data-center, utility, and industrial boom. The company says the plant will double its U.S. enclosure capacity; Mayor Terry Hartwick called the project a major economic win for the whole central Arkansas region. The deal was worked by the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, the city, and the Metro Little Rock Alliance.

Four million images a month, and no public accounting for the stops

North Little Rock is doubling down on license plate readers — 20 more Flock Safety cameras bought this spring for $70,000, which will bring the city's Flock total to 32 once installed. But the Democrat-Gazette reports the police department has published no data this year on the traffic stops those cameras produce, despite a 2025 state law that requires agencies to compile the results every six months for public consumption. In one 30-day window, the department's own IT division found, the cameras captured roughly four million images. Statewide, Greers Ferry, Mayflower, Cabot, and Pea Ridge have all dropped their Flock readers this month.

“The revised policy will include regular audits of LPR usage.”— Mayor Terry Hartwick, who says the department's policy is being rewritten

Travelers staying: council approves 20-year Dickey-Stephens lease

The council voted 5–2 Monday night to let Mayor Terry Hartwick sign a new lease with Diamond Baseball Holdings, keeping the Arkansas Travelers at Dickey-Stephens Park through 2046 — twenty more seasons of professional baseball on the north shore of the river.

“Keeping the Travelers here for the next 20 years is a win for our residents.”— Mayor Terry Hartwick

Unworked hours, unbilled companies: off-duty police overtime cost taxpayers $500,000

A report by then-CFO Ember Strange found the city paid for off-duty overtime hours that were never worked and failed to bill companies accurately for officers' side work — roughly $1.2 million logged for private businesses in a year. In one December pay period, nine officers took home more than the mayor. The city has hired accounting firm Forvis Mazars to audit the department's timekeeping and GPS records, and the department's top internal-affairs officer is among those whose pay drew scrutiny. “There's no telling how much money we've paid overall over the past few years for people not working!!!” city attorney Amy Fields wrote when the report landed.
